Empowered Gifts: UN Women
It’s that time of year again … Kris Kringle season! The time where you dip your hand into a Santa hat, pull out a name and then worry about what to buy.
You could buy them another pair of novelty Christmas socks, or a scented candle; but maybe this year you want to buy something more meaningful, something that shows you care.
Don’t worry – we’re here to help!

Our Empowered Gifts are a unique and meaningful way to show your Secret Santa you haven’t forgotten them, while also supporting the work of UN Women in over 100 countries.A global champion for women and girls, UN Women is the United Nations entity responsible for promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality and was established to accelerate progress to meet the needs of women and girls worldwide.
UN Women Australia is a registered charity in Australia which exists to raise funds for and awareness of UN Women’s work across the Pacific and around the world. UN Women Australia is recognised by UN Women as its partner in Australia to advance UN Women’s agenda.
UN Women’s priority areas of work include:
• Expanding women’s leadership and participation
• Ending violence against women and girls
• Ending poverty through enhancing women’s economic empowerment
• Responding to crises, building peace and resilience, with women’s needs and talents at the centre of disaster planning and response
UN Women’s approach is through partnership: working in close consultation with community leaders and governments, UN Women collects and disseminates evidence to shape effective and transformational policies and programs. At the heart of this work is ensuring that everybody everywhere, no matter your gender, has the same opportunity to lead, to learn, to earn a decent living and to live a life free from violence and discrimination.
Gender equality is not only a basic human right, but its achievement has enormous socio-economic ramifications. Empowering women fuels thriving economies, spurring productivity and growth. Yet gender inequalities remain deeply entrenched in every country in the world. Women lack access to decent work and face occupational segregation and gender wage gaps. They are too often denied access to basic education and health care. Women in all parts of the world suffer violence and discrimination. They are under-represented in political and economic decision-making processes. UN Women is working to change that, and has set a deadline to achieving gender equality: we are working hand in hand with partners and governments around the world to achieve Planet 50/50 by 2030.
